Smartsheet is looking for a Senior Procurement Manager. You will be responsible for supporting specific Business Units across the enterprise globally, leading cross-functional teams in competitive sourcing selection, negotiating contract terms, and managing a portfolio of vendors offering the best overall value in each category for which you are responsible. You will work closely with the Legal Department in the review of contracts to mitigate legal and regulatory risks, as well as with other functional stakeholders as necessary. The Sr. Procurement Manager will provide contract lifecycle management for diverse and complex categories which include research of potential vendors, development of Request for Proposals, and the negotiation of terms and conditions that protects the company from risk and achieves best in class terms; interact with external and internal suppliers and customers; and, demonstrate strategic thought leadership to the Business Units around the use of procurement services. The ideal candidate is someone that is analytical, proactive, team-oriented, and comes with leadership experience within a best-in-class sourcing and procurement function. This role reports to the Director of Sourcing and Procurement. Responsibilities:

  • Direct, define, and implement sourcing and optimization initiatives to drive the support of the organization's growth strategy and business transformation objectives for responsible categories
  • Manage the contract lifecycle of complex contracts in support of various Business Units and spend categories as assigned
  • Develop and maintain expertise in multiple categories being managed by analyzing trends and dynamics of the current market
  • Work with key stakeholders to determine specific needs of the business
  • Identify vendors with the capability to meet business requirements
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams in developing sourcing strategy
  • Prepare RF(x) and lead teams in the source selection process
  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms and conditions
  • Manage and monitor vendor performance and supplier relationship management on an on-going basis

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or procurement preferred, or combination education/experience equivalent.
  • Minimum 10+ plus years of experience in category management, strategic sourcing, contract management, vendor management and/or procurement with a diverse background managing multiple categories.
  • Proven team building and leadership skills, with willingness and ability to direct and contribute to the work of the team.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business owners, IT users, legal, and procurement staff, internally and externally, to draft contracts that align complex needs with commercial requirements to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex, cross-functional programs
  • Ability to structure bids, evaluate against a broad set of evaluation criteria and provide recommendations for vendor selection
  • Demonstrates flexibility and is open to change in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Consistently demonstrates initiative, and willing and able to take on responsibility.
  • Thrives in a fast paced, results-driven, highly accountable environment.

Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in managing the procurement of indirect spend categories, including engineering, IT and professional services.
  • Thorough knowledge of purchasing techniques including strategic supplier concepts, as well as thorough knowledge of business analytical tools.
  • Knowledge of contracting trends, licensing models, and traditional and emerging contract and vendor performance models; expert negotiation tactics and strategies; proven track record of negotiations that result in cost savings and risk avoidance.
