Early Childhood Education- Curriculum Specialist

About the position In alignment with the YMCA of the East Bay’s mission, goals, and policies, the Curriculum Specialist supports high-quality early childhood education programming by monitoring compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, tracking program progress, and providing ongoing curriculum and instructional support. Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor center compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, California Department of Education Funding Terms and Conditions, and the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing in the area of Education Services. This includes but is not limited to: early childhood development and education, implementation of curriculum fidelity, planning and connect outcomes to professional development.
  • Conduct site visits to ensure that all centers are compliant with implementing curriculum per the Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Prepare regular reports based on monitoring findings, including an analysis of the findings.
  • Create and follow-up on corrective action plans which corresponds to monitoring findings.
  • Work in conjunction with the Program Manager-Education and Center Directors to train, mentor, center staff, identify appropriate resources to improve their skills and knowledge, develop new and innovative ways of training staff. Participate in staff training.
  • Investigate products and services such as educational materials related to outcomes
  • Participate in Quality Counts and other relevant committees
  • Review current research in the area of Education and attend classes and workshops for professional development.
  • Assist in the implementation of the annual Self-Assessment.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and interact with staff, children and parents in a positive manner.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must possess one of the following qualifications: A valid Child Development Permit at the Associate Teacher level or higher (or eligibility to obtain one); A teaching credential authorizing instruction in elementary school, including at least 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development; A Single Subject Teaching Credential in Home Economics, including at least 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development; A Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential; or Qualifications meeting the Head Teacher requirements established by California Community Care Licensing regulations, based on the assigned program.
  • Required permits and credentials must remain valid and current as a condition of continued employment in positions requiring such qualifications.
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all applicable background check requirements, including fingerprint clearance, in accordance with California Community Care Licensing regulations.
  • Must meet all applicable health and safety requirements, including proof of immunizations, tuberculosis clearance, and a physical examination, consistent with California state licensing requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and other standard computer applications required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of quality early childhood education practices and California Head Start Performance Standards preferred.
