Position: Fractional Marketing Manager (Remote | Seasonal)

Overview

Forward Outdoor is a family-owned outdoor experience company on a mission to make it easier for everyone to get outside and on the water. Our brand, voice, and positioning are established, and our website is currently being updated to reflect the new season. We're launching an exciting, high-profile new location at Discovery World in downtown Milwaukee, partnering with Lakeshore State Park and Summerfest, to complement our existing river kayaking and outdoor wellness offerings. We’re looking for a Fractional Marketing Manager to lead and execute our marketing efforts during our active season. This is a remote, part-time contractor role (March–September) averaging ~3-5 hours per week with a monthly retainer of ~$1,000-$1,500 . Hours and scope will scale down in the off-season. What you’ll do

  • Lead overall marketing strategy and seasonal planning
  • Own and manage a simple content calendar
  • Create or coordinate:
  • 2–3 social posts per week
  • 1 weekly email newsletter (Mailchimp)
  • Occasional blog content
  • Set up, manage, and optimize light paid campaigns (Google / Meta)
  • Set up and manage customer retention and follow up engagement emails
  • Support basic A/B testing and performance tracking
  • Enter events into local event calendars
  • Basic graphic design using provided Canva account
  • Coordinate with our web developer and graphic designer as needed

What we’re looking for

  • Someone comfortable owning marketing strategy and execution at a small-business scale
  • Experience with content, email marketing, and paid ads (you don’t need to be a specialist in everything)
  • Organized, proactive, and able to work independently
  • Located in/ near Milwaukee, WI
  • Values-aligned: we care deeply about sustainability, accessibility, and diversity in the outdoors

One of the owners has a marketing background but is also leading trips and running day-to-day operations. We’re looking for someone who can take the reins , bring ideas, and keep marketing moving without a lot of hand-holding.

  • Contractor role
  • ~$1,000-$1,500/month retainer (April–September)
  • Reduced scope October–February
