About arenaflex and the Opportunity

At arenaflex, we live and breathe sports. As a global leader in sports media and data intelligence, we are dedicated to delivering the most accurate, timely, and engaging sports content to fans across the world. Our Statistics and Data Acquisition division sits at the very heart of this mission, producing elite-level data, insights, and storytelling that ensure millions of fans trust arenaflex for the depth, accuracy, and perspective they crave. We are Picky Colleagues who Focus on Quality and drive Innovation. Every single day, we strive to be Curious, Inclusive, and Accountable, all while Sweating the Details and Serving Fans by Being One unified team.

This is not your typical data entry position. As a part-time Sports Statistics Analyst I at arenaflex, you will become an essential part of our renowned Statistics and Analytics team, working within the broader Statistics and Data Acquisition department. Scores, statistics, standings, and real-time game data on nearly all arenaflex platforms — television graphics, bottom-line tickers, digital properties, fantasy sports products, and live game trackers — are produced and maintained by our dedicated team. Your work will directly power these platforms, ensuring that fans receive precise, timely, and intelligent sports information around the clock.

Beyond data entry, our Statistics Analysts play a vital role in transforming raw numbers into compelling storylines. You will need to recognize statistical events that help explain why a team won or lost, why a player had a breakout game, or why a particular trend is emerging across a league. Candidates with specialized training — such as those with backgrounds in mathematics, economics, database management, or SQL programming — will find unique opportunities to apply their analytical skills in support of arenaflex's data projects and storytelling initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

As a Remote Sports Statistics Analyst I at arenaflex, your primary duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure Data Accuracy and Timeliness: Guarantee that all sports data disseminated by the Statistics and Data Acquisition team is accurate, timely, and insightful across every arenaflex platform.
  • Real-Time Statistical Delivery: Work both independently and collaboratively to deliver precise play-by-play breakdowns, clock-and-score updates, and various metrics in real time, powering thousands of arenaflex products and productions.
  • Maintain Platform Knowledge: Develop and sustain an active understanding of how Statistics and Data fuels arenaflex's digital products and television productions, staying current on all systems and processes.
  • Quality Control: Verify the results of your own work and that of your colleagues, performing consistently with a high degree of attention to detail in every task.
  • Cross-Functional Contribution: Contribute to production, operations, and initiatives across the broader newsroom, supporting leaders who coordinate both full-time and part-time staff.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Anticipate potential issues, both daily and long-term, and offer viable solutions. Communicate swiftly and decisively with colleagues about these matters.
  • Process Improvement: Play an active role in working with colleagues to develop or refine production processes, helping the team become more efficient and effective.
  • Team Engagement: Be an active participant in team and department meetings, sharing insights, asking questions, and contributing to a collaborative culture.
  • Feedback Integration: Seek out and respond constructively to feedback regarding your individual performance, using it as a tool for continuous professional growth.
  • Policy Compliance: Stay informed about current department policies and procedures, ensuring full compliance in all aspects of your work.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • Sports Knowledge: A working knowledge of teams, players, and the rules of major sports, with a particular emphasis on the sports covered by arenaflex.
  • Schedule Availability: Full schedule availability, which will include evenings (exclusively), weekends, and holidays. This position is specifically designed to fill late shifts, weekends, and event coverage windows.
  • Learning Agility: The ability to quickly learn production processes that generate and maintain sports data driving arenaflex's digital and television products.
  • Accuracy Under Pressure: A demonstrated capacity to achieve a high level of content accuracy in time-sensitive production situations, where mistakes can have immediate and visible consequences.
  • Communication Skills: The ability to communicate confidently — both verbally and in writing — with production managers and peers about production issues and opportunities, often through the noise and intensity of a busy newsroom environment.

Preferred Qualifications

While not strictly required, the following qualifications will distinguish exceptional candidates:

  • Industry Experience: At least one year of experience working in sports and/or statistics, ideally within a media or broadcast environment.
  • Media Data Insight: Knowledge of how sports data is utilized in media and for research purposes, including an understanding of audience consumption patterns.
  • Platform Familiarity: Working knowledge of arenaflex products and productions, including our digital platforms, television broadcasts, and fantasy sports offerings.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Excel and other Office products, with the ability to manipulate and analyze data sets efficiently.
  • Leadership Experience: Experience leading or mentoring a team, whether formally or informally, demonstrating your ability to guide and inspire colleagues.
  • Bilingual Capability: The ability to speak and write Spanish, expanding your contribution to our multilingual coverage efforts.
  • Social Media Savvy: Experience using social media in a professional business or news environment, understanding how platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok shape sports conversation.

Education Requirements

Required Education: A high school diploma or equivalent qualification is required for this position.

Preferred Education: A bachelor's degree or equivalent, particularly in fields such as statistics, mathematics, communications, journalism, sports management, data science, economics, or a related discipline, is strongly preferred.

Skills and Competencies for Success

Beyond the formal qualifications listed above, successful Statistics Analysts at arenaflex tend to share several key attributes:

  • Analytical Thinking: The capacity to interpret complex data sets and identify meaningful patterns that enhance storytelling and audience understanding.
  • Attention to Detail: An unwavering commitment to precision, recognizing that even small errors can undermine the credibility of an entire broadcast or digital product.
  • Composure Under Pressure: The ability to remain calm, focused, and productive during high-stakes live events when accuracy and speed are both non-negotiable.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to handle shifting priorities, last-minute changes, and the inherent unpredictability of live sports coverage.
  • Collaborative Spirit: A genuine enjoyment of working as part of a team, contributing to group success, and supporting colleagues in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
  • Self-Motivation: The drive to work effectively from a remote setting, managing your own time and productivity without direct supervision.

Joining arenaflex as a Sports Statistics Analyst I is just the beginning of a potentially transformative career path. We are deeply committed to the professional development of our team members and offer a variety of growth opportunities, including:

  • Mentorship Programs: Pair with experienced analysts and production leaders who can guide your development and help you navigate the industry.

  • Career Advancement: A clear pathway to senior analyst roles, production management positions, and specialized data science opportunities for those who demonstrate exceptional performance.
  • Industry Exposure: Access to professional development resources, industry conferences, and networking events that deepen your understanding of the sports media landscape.
