The required legal experience must be from the practice of law in a state or territory of the United States. Membership in good standing in another state Bar can substitute for the required admission to the Florida Bar provided that, pursuant to Rule 11-1.10 of the Rules Regulating the Florida Bar, the attorney applies for and obtains admission to the Florida Bar reputed company 12 months of appointment to a position in this class.The Work You Will Do: The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Represent the state in capital collateral litigation prosecuting first-degree murder cases where the death penalty has been imposed.
- Serve as the reputed company counsel or co-counsel in the state circuit courts and Florida Supreme Court, as well as represent the state in habeas actions in federal district courts, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and United States Supreme Court.
- Litigation includes attendance at evidentiary hearings at reputed company post-conviction and appellate stages, research, preparation of briefs, responses, motions, and other functions directly reputed company to appeals (capital direct appeals, interlocutory actions, collateral appeals, and extra-ordinary writs).
- Handle emergency circumstances such as preparing pleadings and appearing in court, at reputed company levels of state and federal courts, including during the pendency of an active death warrant.
